Infinity

Have you ever tried to imagine infinity? I have. It makes my head hurt.

This is especially true when thinking about time - it produces a really bad headache. Then it occurred to me that maybe time cannot be infinite at least in the way we typically think of it.

Another head-banger is to try and imagine a boundless Universe but this always leads to a conclusion-of-the-Truman-Show-moment where he bumped into the end of his Universe only to find another. You’ve been there I’m sure.

So, is there a way to think about infinity without the headache?

YES!!

Here’s how you do it:

  • Get a blank pad of paper
  • Get a pen and place it next to the blank pad of paper
  • Imagine all the possibilities presented by the blank paper and pen

The possibilities are endless. There you have it.

Infinity.

Suppose you write something on the page? Let’s say on the first page you write:

Genesis 1:1 (ESV)
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…

What has just happened? Infinite possibilities just BECAME one of the possibilities - and this one realized possibility is no longer infinite is it?

Could it be that in some way God is like the blank pad of paper and pen and that our Universe is one possibility that BECAME?

Think about it.
